We Made It To Florida

Well, we made it to FLORIDA! Hurrayyyy! Finally!

In the spirit of keeping this blog real and honest, I’ve got to say what we’ve really been through and feeling.  I’ve tried to keep my postings light and fun but, it has not all been that way.

Keith and I both have gone through a lot of emotions in the last couple of days.  We’ve at times felt defeated, dejected and we really have been second guessing ourselves.  Asking whether or not we have made the right decision for us, for Maxi and our children.  Keith has wondered if he has let his son down.  I’ve asked myself if I’ve left my daughter at a time when she really needs me with her, and my son who is a recent ASU graduate, working at a hospital and planning on pursuing a medical degree who still needs my support.

When we were planning this trip, we planned on doing nothing but camping at state parks where we could pitch our tent and sleep in the back of the truck.  Keith spent a lot of time working on the tent and the bed of the truck to make it as comfortable for us, as possible.  It turned out great!  Our first night in Las Cruces was not bad.  We had a good spot on the Leasburg Camp Ground.  That first night really got cold but, because we had blankets, it wasn’t bad.  The second night was really good too because we stayed in a hotel in Junction, Texas.  The third night we stayed on the beach in Sea Rim State Park south of Port Arthur, Texas.  This night was not a very good one.  There were no facilities and as we found out when we went to bed, lots of mosquitoes!!  We all had a pretty miserable night!!  Both of us were up in the middle of the night asking each other whether or not we’d made the right decision.  Last night we stayed in Waveland, Mississippi at Buccaneer State Park.  If you have been following our blog, you probably read my previous post where I wrote about how excited we were about going to Buccaneer because of all the amenities this park had.  Well, this is a good lesson...NEVER believe what you read online!!  They had NOTHING, of what we had read online.  The park is trashed!  Again, we spent quite a miserable night!   Got eaten up by mosquitoes, I had an attack of claustrophobia and couldn't breath, almost kicked Keith in the head in my struggle to get out of the camper!

After talking things over and expressing to each other our thoughts and emotions, we both came to this conclusion: “Nothing in this life worth anything is ever easy!”   So, we decided to move on.  We now know that we can make plans, fool proof plans that seem reasonable and good, but we’ve also got to be flexible, go with the flow.  We have made it to Florida!  The next step now is to shop for a boat!

We’ve only been in Florida 7 hours but, what we’ve seen, we really LIKE!!  The beaches look great, the water looks awesome and the sand is white!! Beautiful!   The weather, as expected, is humid and warm but, when you get on the beach and feel that breeze, you can’t even feel the humidity!!  I think we are really going to enjoy our stay in Florida!! Even Maxi likes it! That is always a plus!

Well, it’s been a long day…time to get some shut eye.  Don’t forget to follow us as we travel and seek our NEW HORIZONS!!
