Third Day on the Road

Third Day on the Road
Saturday, June 11, 2011

Well we made it out of Junction, Texas. We stayed in a Motel 6 last night. Again, it was a long day out on the road. All three of us are doing good, except for getting a bit road weary, Maxi more then Keith or I. He didn’t want to eat or drink at all, all day, which was really getting me nervous and anxious.

Our plan was to camp on the beach, south of Port Arthur…which we thought was a decent sized town.  Well, we found out that Port Arthur is not a town! It is just miles and miles of oil refineries! We were getting low on gas and were not sure if we would make it to Sea Rim State Park where we would be camping on the beach. So we decided to turn around the way we came in search of a gas station.

One of my biggest fears is getting stuck out here in the boondocks of Texas! Ya’ll watch the movie “Texas Chain Saw Massacre”? I did!  Well, we did find a gas station and were able fill up.  While filling up the tank a guy next to us saw us looking at a map and offered his help.  Turns out that if we would of only gone 8 miles more we would of found a gas station and Sea Rim Park was only 8 miles from there….just our luck!  Oh well, better safe then sorry!!

We got to Sea Rim State Park with a full tank of gas, which made me feel more comfortable.  We set up camp a couple of feet from the ocean. The setting up of our canvas tent was a bit trying but well worth it once it was done. Once the tent was set up and it got darker…the moon shining on the water…was something straight out of The Arabian Nights….the sound of the wind and the sound of the waves crashing on the shore was like a lullaby. The peace and quiet is indescribable….

We paid sixteen dollars to be able to camp there.  We paid the sixteen dollars to be able to set up the tent and camp over night. Oh, and because there are trash bins and TWO port potties!! Yayyyy…LOL!!
The romantic Arabian night soon came to a screeching halt when after we went to bed and turned off the lanterns. We began getting attacked by MOSQUITOS!!  But thankfully we had mosquito repellant spray and that took care of the little, blood sucking critters!

Because of the two long days that we had, traveling through Texas, we decided to take Sunday off, rent a hotel room and relax….my legs and ankles really get swollen when I travel and it becomes very uncomfortable.  Also, my left leg is still throbbing from my fall the first night we camped.  So, for today, we are in a hotel room…staying cool in Louisiana and just ate one of the best dinners ever! Fried catfish, fried shrimp, stuffed shrimp and stuffed crab!!  Not the healthiest. But finger licking good!!

Tomorrow is Monday, June 13, 2011 and we will be driving across Louisiana into Mississippi. Where once again we will be camping out.  This time at Buccaneer State Park.  According to the online pictures it’s a great park with running water, electricity, showers, bathrooms, close to the beach, lots of shade, grass and even a Water Park!! We are keeping our fingers crossed that all that is true.

That’s it for today…follow us as we travel and seek NEW HORIZONS!!
