New Horizons

Regatta Pointe Marina

But friendship is precious, not only in the shade, but in the sunshine of life, and thanks to a benevolent arrangement the greater part of life is sunshine. ~Thomas Jefferson

We’ve been here on our sailboat, New Horizons, now for 3 months!  It’s hard to believe it’s that long yet short at the same time!  We have gained some experience with our boat.  We are getting use to everything about her…what not to do, what to do, etc.

While living here at the Regatta Pointe Marina, we’ve met many people.  People that have weekend boats slipped here and only come on weekends to sit on their boat and drink and some live aboards, people who live on their boat, like us.  We live on dock L slip 8…right across from us on L dock slipped in slip 9 is another couple, Tony and Christina who are live aboards and their dog Madeline.  I’ve talked about them in some of my other posts.  We have really come to know them and they have taken us under their wing in showing us the sailing ropes.  Tony took some sailing classes and also took the sailing course to be able to teach sailing to other’s, which is a really big plus for us novice sailors! We have gone out sailing with Tony and Christina a few times now and Tony is slowly teaching us how to become expert sailors; to be able to read the wind, to see how the wind is coming across the water and be ready for it.  He has been teaching me how to be at the helm, reverse out of our slip, which I am telling you, is NOT easy!

One of the things that Tony, Christina, Keith and I have been doing, which is the talk of the marina…is we have been doing “sail-in movies” on our dock!  We pull out the jib (one of the sails of the boat), we set up my lap top, plug in the projector and the speakers and use the jib as our screen!!  LOL…it has been lots of fun!  We usually have a BBQ on the dock…we have dinner and watch the beautiful sun as it sets.  The kids, Madeline and Maximus run up and down the dock inspecting all the neighbors and barking at those they do not recognize.  We sit at a picnic table and eat and laugh and talk about all of our experiences sailing.  We wait until the sun sets, we pull out the electronics, plug them in, set up the jib, our lawn (dock) chairs and watch a movie!

At the entrance of the Regatta Pointe Marina, there are restaurants and a salon/spa place.  Christina went to get her hair done and her hair stylist began telling her about how they were sitting in the Riverside Restaurant and when they looked across they saw that someone was showing a movie on their sail, she thought what a cool idea!!  Christina was proud to say that, those people were US!! LOL…can you believe no one has ever thought of doing just that?? Amazing huh? While they are teaching us to sail, we are showing them other ways of “entertainment”! Of course we also told them how we could hook up the TV to the projector and watch TV on a big screen…now the neighbors are talking about watching football on the jib!! It’s going to be quite the party here…watching football on the jib with the neighbors on the dock!!  Really looking forward to it because one of the neighbors is a great cook!!  Looking forward to some good food and good company while watching football on the jib! Yeah!

Hope you enjoy the pictures I am posting!  It was a bit difficult to capture good pictures because it is after all, night time!!

Stay with us…we have so much more about our adventures as we seek out NEW HORIZONS!!
